Too Literal...

Come on, Ghost...you're better than this.

Okay...like alot of yall i'm pysched for a new Ghostface release. One of the true grimiest yet colorful cats spittin'today (bet Outkast's soon to be released Idlewood soundtrack will warrant the same reaction). Though i'll admit the excitement is a bit slower this time around for me. His first release from his lastest opus is the Pete Rock produced "Be Easy" and with those two names alone you'd expect nothing but a banga, right? Well...hey, it didn't suck but i'onno...felt like Mr.Coles was reaching, just didn't jibe well with ya'boy. Oh, I almost forgot...the name of this new Lp is "Fishscale".
I'm an 80's baby ©; when I was a snotnose around the "Older gods" on the parkbench while they spoke their lessons, ate mickey d's and some other things (not to make a negative dispersion on a whole sect though). I'd hear a fishscale reference thrown about when speaking on narcotics. A balance beam to measure out the goods,y'know. It would've been cool to see the Lp cover look more like the Purple Tape where the inside cover has brother Rae cooking up some hard white. Hey...this is what that scale stuff deals with...

Cut out this working the docks stuff,man...it's like a self fulfilling prophecy. You know...possibly your Lp might stinks or something. But until that release i'll still be playing Supreme Clientele with the greatest skit EVER in Hiphop. Once again it's drug related...it deals with Woodrow the Crackhead. Sweet Jeebus that shit is funny and somewhat tragic at the sametime.

I think Ghost is just being Ghost... and in fact, in being so literal, he's being completely symbolic. You know, and I and I know, and the rest of the hip hop world all know about the fish scale drug reference, but that meaning is completely hidden by this album art, which is kind of slick. It's a little bit of a change from all these other cats who are advertising their drug dealer-ness behind shitty drawings of snowmen and the like.

Ghost is just a fisherman - which kind of takes on a different meaning if you extend the drugs/fish scale metaphor...
