9 yrs ago today Savannah,GA; I was with some friends having a chronic break, just a few minutes prior I was watching the news. It was surreal hearing that big Chris Wallace was gunned down in LA. As I made my way over to the spot a recurring thought of "word...?" kept playing over and over in my head. We get to twistin'up some bud than about 5 mins into things I say "you know Biggie was killed, right?". It didn't hit the room till about 3 mins later when one of my dudes threatened to kick my ass on some "that's bullshit,viclove!?...fuck you talkin'about!?". I shot dude a look that said "nah nigga,i'm serious". The room became tense and quiet...SEGA games were being played.

We never had a group discussion about it...it was just somber. It was as if words would've been a nuisance. It was like damn first Pac now this? Can't recall how the rest of the night went for obvious reasons but...i'onno. I don't know how to wrap this up, just sharing were I was when news got out about this.

Damn, I'm slipping - I should have done a post on this on murderation.

I was here in NY, getting ready to go to work at The Gap, and one of my co-workers, Steve, called me and told me. Like many others, I didn't believe it when I heard the news - I thought it was just some stupid rumor.

Here we are 9 years later, and Voletta still doesn't know who killed her son.

I was in the chow-line on the USS Ingraham, on my way to the Arabian Gulf when I heard the newx. A signalman ran down the ladder blaring the news (on ship, signalmen and radiomen are typically the 1st to get news from the mainland)

He summed it up with, "Man, I wanted to break into the industry when my 3 years were up, but now, I'm not so sure. rappers are droppin like flies, man..." I didn't have the heart to tell him he had no shot because I heard his flow, and he had no real skills. Who am I to shit on someone else's dreams? Besides, it was a somber time...

i've learned that whenever i hear the radio playing back to back songs by a particular artist, to tune in for the break to find out what happened. that's how i learned about tupac, biggie, aaliyah, left eye and rick james. matter of fact, i can take it back to when i was a lil girl listening to non-stop marvin gaye only to learn in the break that he'd been killed. it's always sad when someone whose music/art touches us has passed on. especially tragic when its a violent death.
